Consumer Education: Understanding Home Care
At Boardwalk Homecare, we believe informed families make the best care decisions. Our process begins with a comprehensive overview of home care options, encouraging open discussions to address your unique needs.
We provide clear explanations of available services, costs, and funding sources—including long-term care insurance, Veterans benefits, Medicare and Medicaid. Additional topics covered include:
-
Caregiver responsibilities and limitations
-
Comparisons between live-in and hourly care
-
Federal and state employer requirements
-
Eligibility for home care benefits, grants and funding sources
-
Home preparation and modifications
-
Caregiver support and supervision
After assessing your loved one's clinical condition, daily needs, living environment, and existing support system, we recommend the most suitable home care solution.
Families are always welcome to a copy of our complimentary New Jersey Guide to Home Care booklet, a valuable resource for navigating the caregiving journey.
Program Selection: Choosing A Home Care Option
When a family is ready to explore home care options, Boardwalk Homecare outlines three caregiver hiring options. In doing so, it is important for families to understand who is designated as the caregiver’s legal employer and responsible for all aspects of caregiver management.
These responsibilities will include caregiver screening, scheduling, ongoing training, and day-to-day supervision to ensure consistent, high-quality care. Employers also handle all administrative obligations, such as processing payroll, managing payroll taxes, and maintaining comprehensive insurance and liability coverage to ensure compliance with employment regulations.

At Boardwalk Homecare, we recognize that families will have diverse preferences when it comes to home care solutions. While some opt for the comprehensive services of a licensed home care agency, others may choose to hire a private caregiver to manage costs.
Regardless of your choice, Boardwalk Homecare is committed to providing the same level of dedication and support to ensure a successful care experience. We will never attempt to influence a family’s decision.
Caregiver Compatibility: How To Find the Right Caregiver Match
When a family is ready to explore home care options, Boardwalk Homecare outlines three caregiver hiring options. In doing so, it is important for families to understand who is designated as the caregiver’s legal employer and responsible for all aspects of caregiver management.

We specialize in connecting families with qualified caregivers through our proven recruiting, screening, and staffing processes. Whether you require immediate hourly assistance or comprehensive live-in care, our methods are designed to ensure a seamless and effective match.
Screening
Personal interviews are conducted to assess various employment factors including:
-
Professional appearance
-
Communication skills
-
Work experience
-
Attitude and personality
Recruiting
Connect with a large pool of qualified caregivers in New Jersey who meet state requirements including:
-
Criminal background check
-
Work history verification
-
Proof of legal working status
-
Confirmation of certified home health aide license
Staffing
To ensure optimal in-home care experiences, our staffing method includes:
-
Client Assessment: We conduct thorough evaluations to understand the client's medical conditions, daily routines, personality traits, and specific care requirements.
-
Caregiver Experience: We review our caregivers' backgrounds to identify those with experience in managing conditions such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, stroke, and traumatic brain injuries.
-
Compatibility Considerations: We consider factors like language preferences, cultural background and comfort with pets, smoking environments, or specialized equipment like Hoyer Lifts to ensure a harmonious client-caregiver relationship.
-
Environmental Adaptability: We assess caregivers' willingness and ability to work in various residential settings, including those requiring heavy transfers or involving multiple family members.
This meticulous approach aims to foster trust, comfort, and
continuity of care,
enhancing the overall well-being of our clients.
Orientation Meeting: Setting Home Care Expectations
Each Boardwalk Homecare client is paired with a dedicated case manager who provides personalized support throughout the care journey.
Before services begin, the case manager completes a comprehensive Intake Form to collect detailed information about the client’s health, daily routine, preferences, interests, and care needs.
Intake, along with the Initial Assessment, forms the foundation for defining caregiver responsibilities and identifying the most critical times of day to ensure a safe, comfortable, and consistent care environment.
The case manager conducts an in-depth Orientation Meeting with the family. This meeting is designed to review the client’s specific needs, explain essential procedures, outline the ongoing case monitoring process, and align expectations for all parties involved.
The case manager will review our Home Care Policy Manual to clearly outline service expectations, including:
Orientation Topics
-
Caregiver responsibilities and limitations
-
Key aspects of live-in care
-
Caregiver compatibility and time off requests
-
Food responsibilities, phone use, break time
-
Nursing supervision and the Care Plan
-
Weekly activity tracking
-
Fall risk prevention
-
Emergency preparedness

At the start of every case, Boardwalk Homecare ensures all parties clearly understand roles, responsibilities, and care procedures. This added attention gives families peace of mind, knowing their loved one is in trusted hands.
Case Management: Managing the Client-Caregiver Relationship
Continuity of care is essential to a successful home care experience and plays a key role in reducing hospital readmissions. As part of our onboarding process, a nursing supervisor conducts an Initial Assessment to develop a customized, written Plan of Care for each client. Supervisors then monitor both the client and caregiver on an ongoing basis to ensure the care plan remains current and is followed consistently and competently.
At Boardwalk Homecare, we also place great emphasis on fostering strong client-caregiver relationships. Case managers maintain a detailed record of all case notes and events—accessible to our entire office team—to monitor service effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement. This relationship-focused approach is supported by our case management process, which aims to:
-
Align care with the client’s interests, preferences, and routines
-
Resolve concerns with a courteous and constructive attitude
-
Guide caregivers to avoid actions that may cause discomfort or frustration
-
Reinforce the caregiver’s role as a source of support
-
Assist with the placement of fill-in or replacement caregivers when needed
Throughout the duration of care, Boardwalk Homecare case managers remain actively involved, providing consistent oversight and support. For added peace of mind, an on-call representative is available after business hours to address urgent needs or emergencies.
